A senior National Intelligence Service (NIS) officer has been found dead at his official residence in Nyamira Town under circumstances that investigators have termed suspicious.
The deceased, identified as 56-year-old David Kipkoech Kosgey, was serving as the head of County Intelligence Coordination in Nyamira County.
Confirming the incident, Nyamira County Commissioner Benson Leparimorijo said Kosgey's body was discovered at around midday on Friday, June 5, after concerns emerged over his whereabouts.

According to Leparimorijo, the officer had been scheduled to travel to Nairobi on official duty. However, when junior officers were unable to reach him on Friday morning, alarm was raised, prompting them to check on him at his residence.
The officers eventually broke into the house, which is located adjacent to the County Commissioner's residence, after finding it locked from the inside.
"The house was locked from inside and had to be broken down by officers to gain entry," Leparimorijo said.
Upon entering the residence, officers found Kosgey's lifeless body inside the house.
Preliminary observations by investigators revealed blood stains believed to have resulted from vomiting blood. Leparimorijo also noted that the deceased had vomited a significant amount of blood before his death.
Authorities further indicated that there were signs suggesting a possible struggle within the area where the body was discovered.
Despite the circumstances surrounding the death, investigators reported that there were no visible physical injuries on Kosgey's body.
The discovery immediately triggered a security response, with detectives arriving at the scene to begin investigations into what may have transpired before the officer's death.
The residence has since been sealed off and designated a crime scene as forensic experts and investigators work to establish the exact cause of death.
Kosgey's body was later moved to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, also known as Nyamira Level 5 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
The results of the postmortem are expected to provide crucial information on the circumstances surrounding the officer's death and help investigators determine whether foul play was involved.
As investigations continue, police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident.
By the time of publication, authorities had yet to issue a detailed official statement explaining what may have led to the death of the senior intelligence officer.
