The Jubilee Party has established a three-member committee to engage opposition parties and explore possible coalitions ahead of the 2027 General Election as it seeks to strengthen cooperation among like-minded political formations.

The Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee will be chaired by former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura, with Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta and Janet Ong’era serving as members.

In a statement dated Wednesday, October 28, the party said its National Executive Committee (NEC) had approved the committee’s formation following an appointment by Party Leader Fred Matiang’i.

“Recognising the Jubilee Party's membership in the Azimio la Umoja and the importance of unity among opposition parties, the NEC appointed an Inter-Party Coalition Building Committee to spearhead engagements with other like-minded parties,” the party announced.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the draft Deed of Agreement for the Ukombozi Alliance (TUA) and recommending amendments where necessary.

It will also hold consultations with other opposition parties to assess potential partnerships and develop proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation before the 2027 polls.

Upon concluding its engagements, the committee will submit its recommendations to the NEC for consideration and further direction.

Ole Kenta said the party remained committed to building consensus and working with other political formations to advance a shared national agenda.

“The National Executive Committee reaffirmed the Party's commitment to constructive dialogue, cooperation and the pursuit of a common agenda for the transformation of our country,” he said.

Jubilee reiterated its membership in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, underscoring the importance of opposition unity as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the next General Election.

Jubilee Makes Changes to Party Leadership

Separately, the party appointed Lucy Naisiae Kashu as interim chairperson of its Party Women's Caucus and Madina Yunis Mahat as interim Deputy National Organising Secretary to fill vacant positions.

The NEC approved the appointments made by Matiang’i as part of changes within the party's leadership structures.

The latest developments come weeks after former President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over the leadership of Jubilee to Matiang’i, paving the way for a new phase in the party's organisation and preparations for the 2027 elections.

The transition followed legal developments surrounding restrictions on retired presidents holding formal positions in political parties.

During the leadership transition, Kenyatta urged Jubilee members to rally behind Matiang’i and support him as the party's presidential flag bearer in the next General Election.

The coalition-building initiative signals Jubilee's intention to engage other opposition parties on possible alliances as political formations consider their strategies for the 2027 contest.

The proposed engagements are expected to establish areas of common ground, review existing coalition arrangements and identify opportunities for cooperation among parties seeking a shared political direction.
