Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s meeting with Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has triggered speculation over a possible political alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election, with insiders claiming the two leaders could be considered for a joint presidential ticket.
The meeting, which also involved Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango, was disclosed by Sifuna in a social media post on Tuesday, October 13, in which he highlighted discussions on uniting the opposition and restoring democratic governance.
“Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator Kamau Murango are solid people. But you already knew that. They stopped by the office today to share thoughts on what we must do to unite the country and especially the opposition, for us to return our nation to democratic governance in 2027. Mbele kuzuri,” Sifuna posted on X.
While the senator did not disclose any agreement on a presidential ticket, the meeting has fuelled claims of behind-the-scenes consultations over possible alliances as opposition leaders explore ways to challenge President William Ruto in the next election.

Njeri Maina Linked to Possible Sifuna Ticket
Political insiders cited in reports reaching Vantage Ke surrounding the meeting claim Sifuna’s camp is considering Maina as a potential running mate, in a possible arrangement intended to strengthen ties between Nairobi-based opposition leaders and the Mount Kenya region.
However, neither Sifuna nor Maina has publicly confirmed the reported discussions, and there is no official announcement establishing that the two are negotiating a joint ticket.
Maina has increasingly featured in opposition unity discussions, particularly amid calls for leaders to set aside personal ambitions and agree on a single candidate to challenge Ruto in 2027.
During a recent political rally, the Kirinyaga legislator challenged opposition figures, including Sifuna, Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, to resolve their differences.
“The Kenyan citizens have spoken. They want us to stop infighting. Our enemy is common, and all we want is one candidate to face him in 2027,” Maina remarked.
Her position underscores the growing debate within opposition ranks over whether leaders from different political backgrounds can reach an agreement on a common presidential candidate and running mate.
John Methu Also Mentioned in Opposition Calculations
Nyandarua Senator John Methu has also been mentioned by political insiders as a potential ally in efforts to consolidate support in the Mount Kenya region. According to the claims, Methu could remain part of the discussions as opposition figures consider different political arrangements ahead of the 2027 election.
The reported consideration comes amid uncertainty surrounding the political future of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, whose influence in the region has made him a prominent figure in opposition realignment discussions.
However, there has been no formal announcement identifying Methu as an alternative running mate, and the claims about the internal deliberations have not been independently established.
Kamau Murango’s Meeting With Sifuna Raises Questions
Murango’s presence at Sifuna’s office has added another dimension to the political discussions, bringing together leaders from the same region who are engaging with the Nairobi senator over the opposition’s future.
The Kirinyaga senator has previously defended Sifuna and other opposition figures amid disputes surrounding Senate committee positions, placing him among the leaders involved in cross-party political engagements.
The meeting comes as opposition leaders face mounting pressure to agree on a common strategy before the 2027 General Election.
Although Sifuna’s post presented the engagement as a discussion on national unity and democratic governance, the reported running mate speculation has placed renewed attention on the possible role of younger leaders in the emerging opposition alliances.
For now, the meeting offers evidence of continued political consultations but does not establish that a Sifuna-Maina ticket has been agreed upon.
With neither leader publicly confirming the reported arrangement, the question of who will ultimately represent the opposition in the 2027 presidential race remains unresolved.
