“Detectives from Gigiri have arrested a suspect captured in a viral video alongside his accomplices violently attacking a member of the public and robbing him of his valuables before fleeing the scene in Parklands, Nairobi,” the directorate wrote in a statement.

The robbery was captured on video, which began circulating widely on social media on October 15, triggering public outrage over the increasing cases of robbery in Nairobi.

During the incident, the suspect reportedly dropped a firearm, which was subsequently recovered by police and preserved as an exhibit to aid investigations.

The DCI said the suspect had remained at large following the robbery as detectives pursued intelligence and other leads to track him down.

He is currently being held in police custody as officers finalise the necessary procedures ahead of his anticipated arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, investigators are pursuing further leads to identify and arrest the suspect's accomplices, who are still at large.

The arrest comes amid growing public concern over violent robberies in several parts of Nairobi, with CCTV recordings and videos shared online exposing security challenges affecting residents and businesses.

In a related incident in July, the DCI opened investigations after armed robbers raided a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands and stole valuables from customers at gunpoint before escaping towards Parklands.

The robbery reportedly involved four suspects who arrived at the establishment on two motorcycles. They allegedly fired shots into the air before making their escape.

Following the incident, detectives launched investigations involving the collection of witness statements, intelligence gathering and forensic analysis to establish the circumstances of the robbery and identify those responsible.
