The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the partial closure of a section of Waiyaki Way between Villa Rosa Kempinski and the Museum Hill Interchange to facilitate highway maintenance works.

In a notice obtained by Vantage Ke, KeNHA said the restriction will affect the Mombasa-bound lanes for one month, starting Thursday, October 8, and running until Saturday, November 7, 2026.

“KeNHA notifies the public that a section of Waiyaki Way (A8 Road) between Kempinski and Museum Hill Interchange on the Mombasa-bound lanes will be partially closed temporarily from Thursday, October 8, 2026, to Saturday, November 7, 2026. This closure is to allow for highway maintenance works on the road section,” the notice stated.

Motorists travelling along the affected section will be required to use the portions of the road that remain accessible while the works are underway.

KeNHA has advised motorists to consider alternative routes to reduce potential delays along the busy corridor.

Drivers have also been urged to observe the temporary traffic arrangements and follow directions issued at the affected section.

Traffic marshals and police officers are expected to be deployed to the area to help regulate the movement of vehicles throughout the closure period.

“Motorists are further advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site. Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” KeNHA stated.

The latest restriction comes amid several road construction and maintenance activities affecting traffic flow along Waiyaki Way.

Ongoing works along the corridor include expansion of service lanes, construction of pedestrian walkways and maintenance of overpasses, with some sections either partially blocked or still under construction.

The latest closure follows an earlier month-long partial restriction of the Mombasa-bound lanes between the Global Trade Centre (GTC) and Kempinski.

The earlier closure, which was implemented between July and August, was also intended to facilitate maintenance works along the busy road.

KeNHA has been carrying out road maintenance and drainage improvement works in various parts of Nairobi ahead of the anticipated heavy rains from late October.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has also coordinated multi-agency preparations focusing on drainage, infrastructure and emergency response as the city prepares for the rainy season.

Meanwhile, KeNHA has partially closed another section of Mombasa Road at the Cabanas Eastern Bypass off-ramp to facilitate the construction of a box drain.

The restriction at the Cabanas section is scheduled to remain in place until October 22.
