Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has announced his exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), confirming that he has joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro made the announcement during a media briefing in Nairobi on Monday, August 17, 2026, where he also said he would work with opposition leaders in an effort to defeat President William Ruto in the upcoming election.
"I want to be very direct. I, Ndindi Nyoro, from today, I have joined a party called People's Party of Kenya," Nyoro declared.
The lawmaker said he had spent the past year consulting various opposition figures as he weighed his political options ahead of the 2027 polls.

"I have taken time to consult almost all the opposition leaders. I have sat down with Peter Munya, Martha Karua, and James Orengo. You know Sifuna is my brother. I have sat down with Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka. I want to confirm to you, I have had almost a year-long consultation with most of them including almost for a whole year, Dr Fred Matiang’i," he stated.
Nyoro made the announcement after delivering a detailed address at Safari Park Hotel, where he outlined reforms he said he would pursue once the Kenya Kwanza administration leaves office.
He explained that his decision to work with the opposition followed extensive consultations and his desire to pursue a political path that he believes would serve the interests of Kenyans.
“I have been carrying a heavy burden. I have been thinking and praying that in whatever direction I take, politically speaking, the people of Kenya must be the great consideration that I have,” Nyoro said.
In a further gesture of support for the opposition’s broader political agenda, Nyoro said members of opposition-aligned parties would be welcome to attend PPK rallies.
Nyoro said he would immediately embark on a nationwide tour, with President William Ruto’s traditional political strongholds, including Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Nandi, among the first counties he plans to visit.
The Kiharu MP said the tours would allow him to directly engage voters and explain the events that led to his political fallout with the Kenya Kwanza administration, which he strongly backed during the 2022 General Election.
He further pledged to support candidates seeking MCA and parliamentary seats on the People’s Party ticket as the party works to establish a stronger grassroots presence across the country.
Nyoro said he would provide guidance to the candidates to help ensure the party fields credible leaders at the ward and constituency levels.
“People contesting for MCAs and MPs under the People's Party, I will be offering them advice so that as we fight above there, we also have credible leaders in the wards and constituencies,” Nyoro stated.
The lawmaker’s announcement marks a significant shift from his previous position within Kenya Kwanza, where he emerged as one of the administration’s prominent supporters following the 2022 election.
His decision to join PPK and engage opposition leaders comes as political parties and leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with alliances and grassroots mobilisation expected to intensify in the coming months.
