Three people have died following a road accident in which a car crashed and was later set ablaze at Kenol Stage near Raila Odinga International Stadium along Ngong Road in Nairobi on Thursday morning, October 29.

The accident reportedly occurred at around 7:25 am when a dark blue saloon car, travelling from the Ngong direction at high speed, lost control.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle struck the pavement before veering off the road and hitting a woman who was waiting for a matatu to the city centre. The car was subsequently set on fire by angry boda boda riders.

The woman reportedly died at the scene, while two other victims sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses further claimed that police recovered two bottles of alcohol from the wreckage, sparking speculation that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

Following the incident, boda boda riders allegedly set the wreckage ablaze, claiming they wanted to drive away bad omens associated with the fatal accident.

Images widely circulated online showed the severely damaged vehicle engulfed in flames as rescuers and members of the public gathered at the scene to assist with rescue efforts.

The latest incident has reignited concerns over the rising number of road accidents across the country, despite intensified enforcement operations by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) targeting reckless driving and unroadworthy vehicles on major roads and highways.

The crash comes just four days after a head-on collision involving a bus and a lorry claimed at least 22 lives along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

The victims were members of Power of the Word Church International and the Mombasa Pastors Fellowship who were travelling back from Lugari in Kakamega County, where they had attended their bishop's burial.

The group had left Kakamega at around 4 pm on Saturday, October 24, after opting to travel overnight. At approximately 7 am the following day, the bus stopped in Mtito Andei town to allow passengers to stretch and have breakfast before continuing with the journey.

However, about 15 minutes after leaving the town, the bus collided head-on with a lorry in the Kanga area within Tsavo West National Park, killing at least 22 people and leaving several others injured.

Official NTSA statistics indicate that Kenya recorded 3,995 road accident fatalities between January 1 and October 4, 2026, translating to an average of 14 deaths daily.
