A Kirinyaga Administration Police officer is alleged to have shot his partner dead before taking his own life in a suspected murder-suicide that has left residents of Kimbimbi reeling in shock.
Vantage Ke has established that the incident happened on Monday, July 20, when the 56-year-old officer, attached to Mwea East Sub-County, allegedly fired five rounds inside the couple's home, killing both his partner and himself.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the officer shot the woman four times in the chest before turning the firearm on himself and shooting himself in the neck.
The incident was discovered after fellow officers went to the officer's residence to collect firearm keys.
When repeated knocks went unanswered, they looked through a window and saw the woman's body, prompting them to break into the house.
The officers immediately informed Mwea East Administration Police Commander Stephen Okal, who rushed to the scene and ordered the door to be forced open.
Inside the sitting room, they found the officer's body, bringing to a tragic end what neighbours described as a quiet relationship that had lasted about three years.
Investigators believe the gunshots were not heard because the house is located behind dense trees and thick vegetation, which likely muffled the sound.
The woman, who operated a small shop at Kimbimbi Trading Centre, was remembered by residents as friendly and welcoming to customers.
Neighbours also described the officer as approachable and reliable, noting that he had previously worked as a bank security guard in Ngurubani before being posted to Mwea East.
Commander Okal confirmed that relatives from both families had arrived at the scene, with the woman's family coming from within Kirinyaga County while the officer's relatives travelled from Kiambu County.
Detectives from Mwea East have opened investigations into the incident, while the two bodies were taken to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
