Landowners along Muthaiga-Kiambu Road are set to surrender portions of their property to the government following plans to acquire several parcels for a Ksh38 billion road expansion project.
In a notice issued on Friday, November 6, the National Land Commission (NLC) announced that it intends to acquire 11 parcels of land on behalf of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) to pave the way for the planned expansion.
The commission said the acquisition would be undertaken under Section 110 of the Land Act No. 6 of 2012 to facilitate the dualling of the Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi Road.

"Notice is given that the National Land Commission intends to acquire parcels of land in accordance with section 110 of the Land Act Number 6 of 2012 for the dualling of Muthaiga-Kiambu-Ndumberi Road," the notice read in part.
The affected properties include Land Registration Numbers 81/2, measuring 0.88 acres; 80/2 (1.25 acres); 7022/10 (0.21 acres); 12826/2 (10.85 acres); 5980/1 (4.67 acres); and 12855/26 (1.09 acres).
Other parcels earmarked for acquisition are 5989/186, measuring 0.06 acres; 5989/183 (0.15 acres); 5989/188 (0.48 acres); 5918/14 (0.54 acres); and 4884/1 (0.49 acres).
NLC directed the affected landowners and other interested parties to visit its offices at Ardhi House in Nairobi to examine the maps identifying the specific properties targeted for acquisition.
"Interested persons should inspect plans of the affected land at the offices of the Commission at Ardhi House, 3rd Floor, Room 305, 1st Ngong Avenue, Nairobi," it added.
The announcement comes approximately two weeks after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki disclosed that the government had signed a contract for the Kiambu Road expansion, paving the way for the commencement of construction.
Speaking in Kiambu County on October 28, Kindiki said the project would upgrade the road from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway, covering the stretch between Muthaiga Police Station and Ndumberi.
“We are doing the Muthaiga-Kiambu road, from Muthaiga Police Station to Ndumberi in Kiambu County. It is being constructed from a single lane to a dual carriageway,” he said.
The Ksh38 billion project will transform the route into a four-lane dual carriageway extending from Pangani through Ridgeways, Windsor, Runda and Kiambu Town before terminating at Ndumberi.
The construction plan also includes two service lanes on either side of the main road, alongside new bridges at strategic locations, including Muthaiga Golf Club and Kirigiti Junction.
Additionally, overpasses will be constructed at Mua Road and Tala Road, while U-turns are planned at Coffee Garden, Ridgeways and Runda to improve traffic flow.
The project will further incorporate dedicated non-motorised transport lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, six footbridges, interchanges and connecting bypasses.
