The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over allegations of demanding and receiving bribes.
The two officers, who are attached to the DCI Kipkelion Sub-County Offices, are accused of demanding Ksh500,000 from a complainant in exchange for dropping a murder case against him.
In a statement, EACC said the officers were arrested on Thursday, September 10, following investigations into the allegations.
"The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested two officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kipkelion Sub-County Offices over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe," EACC stated.
"They allegedly demanded Ksh500,000 from a complainant in exchange for terminating a murder case against him," it added.
According to the anti-graft agency, preliminary investigations into the allegations led to an operation being launched targeting the two officers.
The operation resulted in their arrest on Thursday as they allegedly received Ksh120,000 from the complainant.
EACC said the two suspects were subsequently taken to the commission's South Rift Regional Office, where they were processed as investigations into the matter continued.
They were later released on a cash bail of Ksh30,000 each pending the completion of investigations.
"The suspect was processed at South Rift Regional Office and later released on a cash bail of Ksh30,000 pending completion of investigations," EACC said.
The arrests come barely a day after EACC apprehended two court officials over separate allegations of soliciting bribes, further raising concerns about attempts to compromise the administration of justice and the independence of key institutions involved in criminal and court processes.
The two court officials included a Court Assistant attached to the Magistrate's Court in Eldoret and a Court Process Server working at the Civil Registry at Nakuru Law Courts.
The process server was accused of seeking money from a complainant in exchange for securing a convenient mention date for a case.
Meanwhile, the court assistant was allegedly involved in demanding and receiving a Ksh20,000 bribe.
The latest arrests add to a series of recent operations by EACC targeting public officials accused of using their positions to solicit money from members of the public in exchange for services or favourable outcomes in legal matters.
Investigations into the allegations against the two DCI officers are ongoing.
