Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced plans to travel to the United States on Wednesday, August 26, accompanied by his wife, Dorcas Rigathi.
Speaking during a church service at PEFA Church in Karatina on Sunday, August 23, Gachagua revealed that the trip is intended to help him chart his political path ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He said he plans to spend part of his time in the US engaging with different communities.
“On Wednesday this week, my wife and I will travel to the United States to plan for the mountain's future. I want to go there and interact with the whites and fellow blacks for a while,” Gachagua stated.
The former Deputy President indicated that he would remain in the US for an extended period, although he did not specify when he would return to Kenya.
The trip will be his second international visit this year after travelling to the United Kingdom (UK) on May 6 for a shortened diaspora and funds mobilisation tour.
During his absence, Gachagua has tasked his political allies, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu, with holding the fort at home.
The DCP leader explained that his decision to stay abroad for an extended period was deliberate, arguing that being away would allow him to make political decisions without external pressure.
According to Gachagua, some of the decisions concerning his political future could not be made while he remained exposed to influences at home.
“And I have a reason why I will be travelling for an extended period. When I am here, there are decisions that I cannot make due to external influence. Therefore, I want to make decisions without undue influence,” Gachagua stated.
His announcement comes a day before he is expected to conclude his Wamunyoro political consultation meetings on Monday, August 24.
Gachagua had extended the initial 45-day consultation period by another 10 days and is currently hosting the final batch of delegations ahead of its conclusion.
Despite his planned extended stay abroad, the former Deputy President assured his supporters that he would remain in touch with developments back home.
He explained that his team had been authorised to contact him whenever urgent matters arise during his absence.
