Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has slipped to third place in the latest Infotrak survey ranking the country's best-performing Members of Parliament, marking a shift from previous polls in which he consistently featured at or near the top.
The survey, released on Wednesday, July 1, placed Embakasi East MP Babu Owino in first position with an approval rating of 80 per cent. Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga followed in second place after scoring 78 per cent.
Nyoro shared the third spot with Taveta MP John Bwire, with both legislators recording a 76 per cent approval rating.
The latest rankings represent a change in fortunes for the Kiharu lawmaker, who had previously been recognised as either the country's best-performing MP or a close second behind Babu Owino in earlier opinion polls.
Infotrak said the report measures public perceptions of the performance of Members of Parliament, Senators and Women Representatives across the country.
The findings are meant to provide an indication of how Kenyans rate the quality of leadership and service delivery ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to the research firm, the survey gathered feedback from 87,286 respondents drawn from all 47 counties. Participants evaluated their elected leaders using a scale of one to 10, with one representing very poor performance and ten indicating excellent performance.
Several other lawmakers also posted strong performances in the latest rankings. Samburu West MP Josephine Lesuuda, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek, Keiyo South MP Gideon Kimaiyo Kipkoech, Belgut MP Nelson Koech and Mkurweini MP John Kaguchia Gichohi each received approval ratings of 73 per cent.
They were followed by Aldai MP Marianne Kitany, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, Samburu East MP Jackson Lekumontare, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu Nzioka and Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi, all of whom recorded approval ratings above the 70 per cent mark.
Beyond Members of Parliament, the Infotrak survey also assessed the performance of Senators and Women Representatives, with leaders from Kirinyaga County emerging as the highest-rated in both categories.
Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina topped the ranking among Women Representatives after scoring 67 per cent, while Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango led all senators with a 69 per cent approval rating.
Infotrak noted that the rankings reflect how citizens experience leadership beyond election periods, focusing on factors such as leaders' visibility, accessibility, responsiveness, communication and stewardship of public resources.
"Elections give citizens the power to choose leaders.
"Between elections, citizens continue to observe, assess and judge the quality of leadership they receive. They observe whether leaders are present or absent," the Infotrak report stated.
