The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially launched a new digital platform enabling Kenyans to access, download and verify their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates online.
On Tuesday, July 21, the examinations council also published a detailed guide explaining how applicants can register and access the new e-certificate service.
According to KNEC, applicants must first visit the e-certificate portal at ecertificate.knec.ac.ke and create an account by selecting the Applicant (Student/Alumni) option.
As part of the registration process, users will be required to enter their email address, after which a One-Time Password (OTP), valid for 10 minutes, will be sent to verify the account.
Applicants who already have accounts can log in using their registered email addresses and request a fresh OTP to gain access to the platform.
Once logged in, users are required to complete their profiles by providing information including their citizenship, full name, date of birth, phone number and national identification number where applicable.
To obtain the digital certificate, applicants should select the Generate e-Certificate option and key in their KCSE index number, examination type and the year they sat the exam. The platform supports certificates issued between 1989 and 2025.
The portal will then verify the submitted information automatically. Upon successful verification, applicants will be required to pay a processing fee of Ksh1,500 via a mobile money payment application.
After the payment has been processed, the KCSE digital certificate will be available for download in PDF format.
Certificate Verification
KNEC said the platform also allows certificate holders to verify and share their academic credentials with employers, learning institutions and other third parties.
Users can generate a verification report by entering the recipient's information and choosing a preferred delivery method, including email.
The council says the new system is designed to make KCSE certificates easier to access, minimise paperwork and provide graduates with a convenient way to present verified academic credentials for employment, further education and other official applications.
