The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has directed first-year students seeking to switch courses within their universities to contact their respective institutions for assistance.
In a notice, KUCCPS clarified that interfaculty transfers are handled directly by universities and do not require the involvement of the placement agency.
The clarification came after several first-year students sought guidance on how to change their courses while remaining within the same university where they had been placed.
KUCCPS advised students interested in making the switch to approach their universities, explaining that the process is initiated and managed internally by the institutions.
“Interested students should engage their respective universities as the process is initiated internally at the universities,” KUCCPS stated.
Students seeking to move from one faculty to another have therefore been advised to consult their universities to establish the applicable requirements, procedures and deadlines for the transfer.
The clarification comes as thousands of newly admitted students settle into their respective programmes, with some expected to reconsider their course choices based on their academic interests, qualifications or other available opportunities.
Unlike interfaculty transfers, students seeking to move to a different university have a separate transfer process handled through KUCCPS.
KUCCPS previously clarified that students who missed the inter-university transfer window, which closed on August 14, can still apply for an inter-institutional transfer in 2026 and/or 2027.
According to the placement agency, candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination remain eligible to seek a transfer during the two years.
“If they sat for KCSE in 2025, they are eligible for transfer this year, 2026, and/or next year, 2027,” KUCCPS said.
KUCCPS is currently processing transfer applications submitted by eligible students and said successful applicants will receive their transfer letters once the process is completed.
Students who have submitted transfer requests have consequently been urged to regularly log into their KUCCPS portals to check their application status.
The placement agency noted that transfer letters will be issued directly through the student portal once the requests have been processed and approved.
