Several major roads within Nairobi's Central Business District and surrounding areas will be partially inaccessible to motorists following a notice by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) on planned infrastructure works.

In a statement issued on Monday, June 8, KURA announced that sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road and Jakaya Kikwete Road will be under partial closure from June 12, 2026, to February 12, 2027.

The authority said the restrictions will enable contractors to carry out bridge construction works while maintaining road safety and reducing traffic interruptions.

Meanwhile, motorists using Ngong Road should also prepare for disruptions, as a section of the road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road will be partially closed from June 11 to June 18, 2026. The closure will allow the installation of twin cross culverts.

"Ngong Road will be partially closed for one week to allow the contractor to install twin cross culverts at the section between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road," KURA wrote in a third notice.

In addition, Haile Selassie Avenue will be partially closed for four months, beginning June 12 and ending October 12, 2026, to facilitate ongoing bridge construction activities.

The affected stretch is located between the SHA Building and the Madison Insurance Building.

KURA noted that the works form part of the final stage of broader road upgrade projects intended to improve traffic movement and urban transport efficiency along the corridor.

Following the announcement, the authority urged drivers to seek alternative routes and comply with instructions from traffic police officers and marshals who will be stationed at the affected areas.

"We urge motorists to use alternative routes and follow the guidance by traffic police and marshals," KURA said.

The latest disruption on Ngong Road comes less than a month after a similar traffic advisory.

On May 17, 2026, KURA announced partial closures along the same corridor to pave the way for asphalt works being undertaken as part of the project's final phase.

Among the key developments along the route is an 800-metre flyover near Junction Mall, which incorporates a 254-metre steel structure designed to eliminate congestion traditionally experienced at the Junction Mall roundabout.

Reports indicate the Ksh3.58 billion elevated dual-carriageway project was developed to ease heavy traffic along one of Nairobi's most important economic corridors.
