Motorists, car dealers and vehicle owners seeking services from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are set to face temporary disruptions after the agency announced a planned system downtime to facilitate the rollout of its new electronic logbook platform.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, NTSA revealed that its systems will experience intermittent unavailability from 4pm on June 9, 2026, until 8am on June 10, 2026.
According to the authority, the temporary outage is necessary to enable a smooth transition to the highly anticipated eLogbook system, a move expected to digitize and streamline vehicle ownership records across the country.
"This is to inform all our stakeholders that the NTSA system will experience intermittent unavailability on Tuesday, 9th June 2026 (4pm) to Wednesday, 10th June 2026 (8am) to facilitate a smooth transition to the eLogbook," the notice stated.

The announcement means Kenyans seeking services such as vehicle transfers, driving licence applications, inspections, PSV-related transactions and other services offered through NTSA's digital platforms could experience delays during the maintenance window.
The shift to eLogbook marks a significant milestone in the government's push to digitize public services and reduce paperwork in vehicle registration and ownership processes. The new system is expected to make transactions faster, improve transparency and reduce cases of fraud linked to vehicle ownership records.
NTSA acknowledged the inconvenience likely to be caused by the temporary disruption and appealed to members of the public to plan their transactions in advance.
"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to offer quality services to you," the authority added.
The notice comes at a time when the government is accelerating the digitization of key services, with agencies increasingly shifting to online platforms to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery.
Motorists and stakeholders who encounter challenges during the transition period have been advised to contact NTSA through info@ntsa.go.ke or seek assistance at the nearest NTSA office.
The overnight migration is expected to pave the way for the full implementation of the eLogbook platform, which could fundamentally change how Kenyans buy, sell and manage vehicle ownership records in the future.
The planned outage comes just weeks after NTSA unveiled major reforms to vehicle registration and ownership through the rollout of a digital e-Logbook system.
Set to go live on Wednesday, June 10, the platform will be integrated with the government's eCitizen portal, enabling vehicle ownership records to be created and updated automatically whenever a transfer is completed.
NTSA says the new system aims to tackle fraud in vehicle transactions by replacing traditional paper logbooks with secure digital records protected through encryption, secure hashing technology and QR-code verification.
Under the new framework, buyers and sellers will be able to process vehicle ownership transfers entirely online, eliminating the need to visit NTSA offices.
The authority also noted that financial institutions, insurance firms and prospective buyers will be able to verify vehicle ownership details instantly by scanning a QR code embedded in each e-Logbook. The move is expected to improve transparency and minimise cases of document forgery.
Once verified, the digital logbook will display crucial information, including the vehicle registration number, certificate number and ownership status.
Users will also be able to access details such as the vehicle's make, model, body type and colour, allowing them to confirm the authenticity of records in real time.
