Siaya Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Oburu Oginga has denied reports claiming that he was readmitted to Nairobi Hospital.
Speaking to The Star, Oburu said he was discharged from the hospital on Monday morning, August 31, and is currently recuperating at his Nairobi residence.
The senator questioned the reports of his alleged readmission, saying those circulating the information had not reached out to him to establish the facts.
“Those people saying I have been readmitted, have they talked to me? They have not looked for me,” Oburu said.
Oburu also dismissed claims that access to him had been restricted to only close family members while he was receiving treatment at the hospital.
According to the ODM leader, he received visits from several political leaders during his hospital stay, including Cabinet Secretaries.
“I have received so many visitors. Cabinet secretaries like Opiyo Wandayi, the Energy CS, visited me,” he stated.
Robert Alai Dismisses Reports
Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai also rejected reports that Oburu had been readmitted to hospital.
In a social media post, Alai said the ODM leader was at home and in good health. “ODM Party Leader isn’t in the hospital. He is very much ok and at home now,” Alai said.
He further urged the public to disregard the reports, stating, “Wacheni (stop) fake news.”
The denials came amid reports circulating about Oburu's health and claims that visitors had been restricted during his hospitalisation.
The Daily Nation had earlier reported that Oburu had been readmitted to Nairobi Hospital and that access to him was limited to close family members.
The 83-year-old politician has remained largely out of the public spotlight in recent days, prompting speculation over his health. However, Oburu has not publicly disclosed details of the medical condition that led to his hospital admission.
While members of Oburu’s family and his close aides have described his absence as a deliberate break from public engagements and an opportunity for him to rest, reports have claimed that the politician has been experiencing health challenges and is receiving medical attention.
Additional reports had suggested that his family was considering taking him to the United Kingdom for specialised medical treatment.
