The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary partial closure of Outer Ring Road in Nairobi on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
In a traffic advisory issued on Wednesday, September 2, KURA announced that the closure will run for three hours, from noon to 3 pm.
The temporary disruption will facilitate the removal of a gantry, an overhead structure commonly used to support road signs, cameras, and other road equipment.
"Motorists are informed of a partial closure of Outer Ring Road on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, to facilitate the removal of a gantry. We apologise for any inconvenience caused," KURA stated.
The works will be carried out along the section of Outer Ring Road connecting to Airport North Road, with motorists expected to experience traffic disruptions during the operation.
According to the work sequence plan, traffic interruptions will run throughout the three hours, while a full closure of the road will be implemented for one hour between 1 pm and 2 pm.
Motorists have been urged to plan their journeys and follow instructions from traffic police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed at the site.
Outer Ring Road serves as a key transport link between the Thika Superhighway, Eastern Bypass and Airport North Road, making the planned closure likely to affect traffic movement along the busy corridor.
The scheduled works are part of KURA's ongoing road maintenance and infrastructure improvement efforts aimed at enhancing safety and easing traffic flow along major roads in Nairobi.
The authority has in recent months introduced temporary traffic diversions in different parts of the capital as various road projects continue.
The interventions include works along Kenyatta Avenue and Ngong Road, where construction activities have involved overhead bridges, footbridges and other road modernisation projects.
The projects are part of broader efforts to improve and modernise Nairobi's road network, with various works being undertaken by KURA, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Nairobi City County Government.
