Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango has alleged that Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) youth official Justin Kinyua was abducted by hooded men, accusing the government of targeting young people because of their political affiliations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, August 4, Murango denounced what he termed escalating political persecution of the youth, claiming Kinyua was forcefully bundled into a vehicle by unidentified men and taken to an undisclosed location.
The senator asserted that the alleged incident had intensified fears over the reported use of police and other state institutions to suppress young people with opposing political views.
"Justin Kinyua has been abducted and is being driven to an unknown destination, raising serious concerns about the growing misuse of police and government machinery," he stated.
Murango maintained that government agencies should safeguard citizens and uphold the rule of law rather than being deployed to stifle political dissent, especially among the youth.
He further warned that continued harassment of political opponents could heighten public frustration and erode confidence in state institutions.
Calling for Kinyua's immediate release, the lawmaker vowed to support young people subjected to what he described as politically motivated arrests, intimidation and persecution.
"No young person should be silenced or victimised for holding a different political opinion. Together, we shall stand for justice, democracy and the protection of every young person's rights," Murango said.
Murango also disclosed that he was working with Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Kigumo MP David Mathenge to establish Kinyua's whereabouts.
He insisted that political disputes should be addressed through democratic processes instead of intimidation or alleged abductions.
By the time of publication, the National Police Service (NPS) had not released a statement confirming the alleged abduction or Kinyua's whereabouts.
Likewise, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had not issued any official communication regarding the allegations.
