A woman was reportedly injured on Tuesday afternoon, July 14 after she was knocked to the ground during a cash distribution exercise involving Nairobi gubernatorial hopeful Milton Lucheri along Riverside Drive in Nairobi.
The incident happened at about 1pm near Riverside Square, where Lucheri had allegedly stopped his vehicle to hand out money to construction workers and boda boda riders gathered by the roadside.
A video obtained by Vantage Ke shows dozens of people running alongside the moving vehicle, with some hanging onto its sides as the cash handout continued.
The footage shows a chaotic scene, with people pushing and shoving each other as they tried to get closer to the vehicle.
Amid the commotion, a woman identified as Rose, who was reportedly selling pineapple slices with her daughter nearby, fell onto the road.
The video further shows the vehicle driving away as the crowd scattered, leaving the woman lying on the tarmac.
Witnesses alleged that she was pushed during the scramble, although the exact circumstances that led to her fall remain unclear.
The incident briefly caused traffic disruption after the woman was left lying on the road in the path of approaching vehicles before another woman rushed to help her.
By the time of publication, neither Lucheri nor his team had issued an official statement regarding the incident.
The episode comes as politicians intensify public engagement activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Lucheri recently announced his bid for the Nairobi governor's seat under the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) Party, although he is yet to officially launch his campaign.
Before the 2022 General Election, he contested for the Nairobi Senate seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
He previously served as a board director at the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
In May 2025, he was appointed to the board of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya following the end of his tenure at REREC.
