Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana is mourning the death of his eight-year-old daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana, who died on Sunday, September 13, after a prolonged illness.
The senator announced the death through his social media accounts, revealing that Amal passed away while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga.
"It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hon. Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Hon. Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announce the passing of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana," Mungatana stated.
"Amal went to be with the Lord on Sunday, 13th September 2026, while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, Muthaiga."
Amal was born in 2018 and had reportedly battled health complications from an early age.
According to the family, the young girl had undergone treatment both in Kenya and abroad over the years as her parents sought medical care for her condition.
Mungatana's wife, Mwanaisha Chidzuga, who serves as Deputy Government Spokesperson, also joined the senator in informing the public about their daughter's death.
Following her passing, the family travelled to their rural home in Ngao Village, Tana River County, where relatives and friends have gathered to mourn the child.
The family is currently making arrangements for Amal's burial, which is scheduled for Friday, September 18.
Her death has left the family grieving after years of seeking treatment for her illness. Messages of condolence have continued to pour in from leaders and members of the public following the family's announcement of their daughter's death.
The family has appealed for privacy and prayers as they come to terms with the loss and complete preparations for their daughter's burial.
The development comes days after Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah lost his sister following a prolonged illness.
Omtatah confirmed her death on September 1, describing his late sister as a renowned educator who had battled illness for several months.
